I was listening to a podcast that mentioned something that made me laugh: there are words where the negative version is still in use, but the positive one isn't. Disgruntled versus gruntled. Ruthless versus ruthful. The idea stuck with me. I'm a bit of a word nerd, so naturally I started imagining what it would sound like to say "I'm feeling really gruntled today." Combined with my retail background and entrepreneurial spirit, I thought, why not put these on a hat?
So I launched Whelm Co.
We live in a world that could use more hope and positivity. These products sit at the intersection of word nerd humour, playfulness, and genuine impact. They're great conversation starters. Most people who'd love Whelm Co are probably the same folks who enjoy Wordle, appreciate a good pun, and care about supporting businesses with real values.
Everything is made on demand, so there's no waste. And we're committed to collaborating with nonprofits on fundraisers that actually matter. Our "Words Matter" collection directs a percentage of sales to causes we believe in. Our Free the Press pins benefit Canadian Journalists for Free Expression, because free speech is worth celebrating.
Whether you're shopping for yourself or looking for gifts for word nerds in your life, Whelm Co is here to bring a little fun into the world while supporting organizations doing important work.
